Two Park Street: A Publishing Memoir (signed)

Houghton Mifflin, 1986. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed on the half-title page by Brooks. A slender retrospective on his days in publishing as the editor-in-chief of Houghton-Mifflin, including several chapters on his work with Roger Tory Peterson, Rachael Carson, and other nature writers. As Rachel Carson's editor, he suggested the title Silent Spring, and he later wrote a book about her. But Brooks was also a great student of environmental writing and accomplished naturalist writer himself and was the winner of the John Burroughs Medal for nature writing for *The Roadless Area.* A near fine book with a touch of soiling/wear to lower edge of boards; in a very good jacket with browning to upper and outer edges of the front panel. Uncommon signed. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. Near Fine / Very Good. Item #ABE-1681537169410
