Encounters with the Archdruid: Narratives About a Conservationist and Three of His Natural Enemies

NY: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1971. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Second printing in the year of publication. Inscribed by McPhee on the title page that same year: "To Mary, from Phyllis Dismore, Christmas 1971, and with best wishes from John McPhee." His classic work that shadows Sierra Club founder David Brower as he conversationally takes on three foes of conservation in the field, including Floyd Dominy, infamous dam builder as the commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation A very good book with toning/soiling/fine foxing to upper and outer edges of the text block, but the pages are bright. The upper corner of the front board is bumped. Slight musty smell. The dust jacket is very good: The cover doesn't show the usual fading and remains its chestnut brown, but the spine has faded to its under-olive. There's a conspicuous streak of wear at the fold between the front panel and the spine, some wear to top and bottom of the spine, and a dogleg tape repair across most of the upper half of the back panel that's surprisingly inconspicuous. Rarely found signed. Very Good / Very Good. Item #ABE-1593624880025
