The Last Stand: Ralph Nader's Study Group Report on the National Forests (U.S. Forest Service Chief Jack Ward Thomas's copy)
NY: Grossman Publishers, 1974. First edition. Hardcover. An association copy: former United States Forest Service Chief Jack Ward Thomas's copy, with his ownership signature, date, and place (Washington, DC) on the olive front free endpaper. Curiously he dates the book eight years before it was published, so perhaps he meant 1976. With "Thomas" written boldly on all three text block faces as was his habit. From the jacket: "This account of how the natural treasure of our National Forests is being plundered by the commercial logging industry is a chronicle of the mismanagement of the public trust, of the acquiescence of public agencies before the arrayed power of private interests, of the threat to our most precious resources. With care and concern, Daniel Barney and his colleagues expose the nature of the tiber industry's designs . . ." With an introduction by Ralph Nader, (in)famously a Green Party presidential candidate. A large duodecimo in black cloth, white and green lettering to spine. Fine in a very good jacket with light wear to corners and spine ends and one short tear/chip to lower corner of the front panel. An attractive book. Fine / Very good. Item #2211
