The Beacon Book of Essays by Contemporary American Women (signed by contributors)
Boston: Beacon Press, 1996. First edition. Hardcover. Signed by Joan Didion, Amy Tan, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Adrienne Rich, Mary Gordon, Annie Dillard, Terry Tempest Williams, Sandra Cisneros, and Alice Walker at their contributions. An exceptional and, very likely, unique collection of signatures. With the publicist's stapled material folded, signed, and laid in at front. From the jacket: "Two generations ago, most essayists were men; but in recent decades, women writers have claimed the personal essay using its freedom to explore contemporary life--in all its diversity. . . . Wendy Martin has gathered a wide range of essays, many appearing here for the first time in book form, that show how fertile a form the essay has been for American women writers over the last half-century." Red dot stickers on the mylar covering indicate on the rear who has signed the book. A fine book in a fine jacket. Fine / Fine. Item #2207
