A nice association copy: his mother's copy, Signed by Berry and numbered 2/100 of a limited signed edition opposite the title page (presumably he kept the first copy, or gave it to his wife). Uncommon or scarce signed, the only copy available as of this writing. As an accompanying letter of provenance explains, after the book came back to Berry following his mother's death, he donated it to the Pendleton County Public Library in Kentucky to help it rebuild after its collections were lost to a devastating flood. As Berry's preface explains, this book is a revision of an out-of-print novel first published in 1967, substantially revised and cut by about a third. He concludes the preface: "This, then[,] is not a new book, but a renewed one." Set in his fictional town of Port William, Kentucky, the land itself and its rhythms are the essential character. Handsome auburn paper boards with a blue cloth spine. Very good with very mild rubbing to corners and spine ends and faint foxing to text block faces. In a very good or better jacket with just a hint of toning to the pale rear panel's edges, but the jacket is slightly misaligned on the book, possibly a printer's error, as it seems a little small.
