The House of Life: Rachel Carson at Work (inscribed)

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1972. First edition. Hardcover. Inscribed in the year of publication on the front free endpaper: "For George, with affection + admiration, Paul, April 1972." Brooks was the editor-in-chief of Houghton Mifflin as well as Rachel Carson's editor, and in fact he suggested the title Silent Spring. This book is his biography of her and their work together. Brooks was also an accomplished naturalist writer himself and was the winner of the John Burroughs Medal for nature writing for Roadless Area. Very good with some rubbing to corners, the upper rear corner bumped more significantly. In a very good jacket with prominent sunning to spine and top edges, as is common for this title; a thin red streak at top of front panel, also, and one tear about an inch long to both the front and rear top edges. Very good / Very good. Item #2089
