Summer Snow (inscribed, with a signed Hass broadside made by the recipient)

First edition. Hardcover. An association copy, and a nice pairing. The book is inscribed artfully on the title page, incorporating the printed title: "For Larry, [Summer] from [Snow] to the wind and time. Robert Hass." Uncommon signed (no other copies available as of this writing), perhaps in light of the pandemic. The recipient is poet and printer Larry Rafferty, and included also is a signed broadside featuring Hass's poem "Stanzas for a Sierra Morning"--the fourth poem in the collection and featured in full on the book jacket's rear--which Rafferty printed via his hit & run press. This is one of 25 signed copies. Rafferty and Hass grew to know each other at the Community of Writers annual conference in the Olympic Valley (formerly Squaw Valley) near Lake Tahoe, and this poem almost certainly was born there. Hass is one of our most respected contemporary poets. He won the trifecta--the Pulitzer, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award--for Time and Materials, and previously served as the US Poet Laureate. The book is fine in a fine jacket. The broadside is fine on stiff white paper (Magnani Pescia) with one uncut edge and a magenta fireweed illustration by Stephanie Sanchez. An uncommon inscribed copy and a broadside fit to be hung on the wall as a conversation piece that will point you back to the shelves. Fine / Fine. Item #2016
