Carr's second book, following The Windward Road which won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing. An exploration of his African travels (ulendo means "journey" in the Chinyanja language of Malawi). "Through these entertaining adventures we come to see the special meaning of the wilderness as the environment in which man became human. For the African veld fauna is really a version of the grand old plains community of beats and men which, in the Ice Age, spread all over the grasslands of the world." Carr was a professor of biological sciences at the University of Florida and a sea turtle specialist. Blue cloth with dark blue illustration and gilt lettering on spine. Very good with very light sunning to board edges. With a non-authorial gift inscription to the same recipient in the year of publication on the front pastedown.
