Island Sojourn (inscribed)

NY: Harper & Row, 1980. First edition. Hardcover. Inscribed on the title page: "Bath, Indiana, August 1987, For John, A fellow wilderness traveller [sic] -- with all the best, Liz Arthur." Uncommon signed. A memoir about several years spent living on an island in a lake in interior British Columbia, where Arthur and her husband built a cabin and explore and the wilderness surroundings. "As much as this is the story an island sojourn, it is also ... the lyrical self-portrait of a young woman who moves within from innocence to knowledge, from a desire to escape the world and stop time to an acceptance of the world and the inevitability of change." Jacket with a watercolor illustration by noted designer and children's book author John Alcorn. A very good book with a hint of bowing to the text block (some Maine humidity, likely, where this book arrived from), but not boards, that might press out. In a very good jacket with wear to corners and spine ends. Very good / Very good. Item #1892
