A Place in the Sun: Ecology and the Living World (inscribed by both authors)

NY: William Morrow and Company, 1968. First edition. Hardcover. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For Frank and Hazel, with our best, Lois and Louis." Both authors have signed, but the inscription is in Lois's hand.  An uncommon book in general and scarce signed. An early primer on ecology from the illustrious science duo. "Taking the rich fields and woods of their own Connecticut home for demonstration, the Darlings explain ecological relationships at work there and show how typical they are throughout the world." Louis illustrated Silent Spring (1962) and won the John Burrough Medal for natural history writing for The Gull's Way in 1966. Octavo, green cloth with gilt lettering, 128 pages including index.  Very good with a hint of foxing to top face of the text block and light browning on the endpapers from the binder's glue. In a very good jacket with sunning to spine, as well as faint dampstaining that is more noticeable when looking at the jacket's reverse; some loss, chipping, to spine tail and a mid-jacket tear along the rear fold of spine, hardly noticeable.
