A standout association copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To Dr. Francis Collins, in admiration, Siddhartha Mukherjee." Francis Collins (see his Britannica page) is an internationally-respected physician-scientist known for his landmark discoveries of disease genes and his leadership of the international Human Genome Project. He also served from 2010 through 2021 as the director of the US National Institutes of Health, the only director to serve through multiple administrations. He's known, too, for his efforts to foster a dialogue about science and religion. He is the recipient of a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Science, and the Templeton Prize, among many other honors, as well as the author of six books. Collins is mentioned on page 450 by Mukherjee in relation to the Humane Genome Project (see photo). A powerhouse association as such between two leading figures in epidemiology.
