A Gary Snyder Broadside Collection

A collection of 63 broadsides and poetry postcards featuring the poetry of Gary Snyder, as well as two posters. Snyder has shown a particular allegiance to broadsides over the course of his career. Quite possibly he is one of the poets with the most broadsides to his name over a lifetime, with 118 titles (and more editions) listed through 2010 in the bibliography compiled by John Sherlock for the Special Collections Department at UC Davis, where the bulk of his papers reside. So consider these 63 broadsides a starter collection. Since 2010, probably a few dozen more broadsides have been produced (some included here). On average, Snyder's poems have appeared on broadsides two or three times per year across 60 years. Snyder's dedication to broadsides (and often their benefit causes) aligns with his bioregionalist sensibility. In his trade books, he has remained steadfastly committed to independent publishers, but when one looks at the landscape of his fine press publications--and of the broadsides in particular--an even more plural, decentralized network emerges that links the poet with printers, artists, and local causes across the nation, and particularly in the West. These broadsides are generally near fine or better condition; roughly half are otherwise unavailable on the open market. Here they are listed alphabetically with presses, year, and limitations when known, as well as whether the broadside is signed (additional images to come): "Across Llamarck Col." (SF Arts Festival Commission, 1964, 1/300 signed); "All in the Family" (UCD Davis Library, 1975, 1/200 signed) "Anasazi" (Yes!
