Manzanita (inscribed to the publisher, Don Allen)
Bolinas: Four Seasons Foundation, 1972. First edition. Softcover. A significant association copy, inscribed in the year of publication on the title page to the publisher: "Kitkitdizze 18.X.40072, For Don Allen (who drank our local manzanita berry tea yesterday), Gary Snyder." Uncommon signed. Kitkitdizze is Snyder's homestead in the foothills of the Sierra.
Donald Allen founded the Four Seasons Foundation, which published this volume and other works by Snyder and the Beats (see our copy of Riprap & Cold Mountain Poems also inscribed to Allen). He then started Grey Fox Press which did the same. He's perhaps best known for editing the influential New American Poetry anthology which helped announce and establish the Beats. One of the foremost champions and facilitators of the Beat movement. Snyder dedicated his later book Left Out in the Rain to Don Allen and James Laughlin, who took on Snyder at New Directions.

Includes such notable poems as "I Went Into the Maverick Bar," "Spel Against Demons," "The Bath," and "Prayer for the Great Family" among others. Cover illustration by Arthur Okamura.
