Inscribed by Medsger on the front free endpaper: "To Reba Capen Treadwell, with kind regards of her friend, the author Oliver Perry Medsger, Arlington, NJ, Jan. 26, 1933." Part of Medsger's Nature Rambles quartet, a literary walking tour to closely observe flora and fauna in various habitats in each season. With the subtitle "An Introduction to Country-Lore." This four book series collectively won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing in 1933. With a short foreword by Clyde Fisher, the director the planetarium at the American Museum of Natural history, and plates in color and black-and-white. Red cloth and maroon jacket. A near fine copy with a little darkening/dust soiling to the top face of the text block. In a good jacket with loss to corners and several splits to spine, now held firm under mylar. Medsger (see his obit from a Florida newspaper) was a botanist and professor at Pennsylvania State College and before that the head of the science department of the Jersey City schools.
