This book won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing. In the tradition of Thoreau, Terres distills seven years walking on the Mason Farm, "a long-abandoned North Carolina homestead now run to wilderness." With illustrations by Charles L. Ripper. Terres was a prolific writer of natural history, in particular ornithology, and for 12 years was the editor of Audubon Magazine. An about fine copy in green cloth with a maroon top stain; in a very near fine, price-clipped jacket with just a hint of wear to corners and slight toning/sunning to spine, but with panels that are a remarkably bright white.
