Douglas Brinkley." Lovejoy is much more than a lover of Alaska; dubbed "the godfather of biological diversity" (a term he introduced in 1980), he helped shape the field of conservation biology and was one of the world's foremost ecologists and environmentalist, recruiting scientists and celebrities alike especially in defense of the Amazon (see his New York Times obit, not least for a great photo of him and a steely Tom Cruise). Laid is a clipping of a review of The Quiet World from The Washington Post as well as a sales slip receipt from Barnes and Nobles with Lovejoy's carbon copy signature. Brinkley is perhaps the foremost popular environmental historian, and in The Quiet World he "traces the Wilderness movement in Alaska, from John Muir to Theodore Roosevelt to Aldo Leopold to Dwight Eisenhower" and including many others like Charles Sheldon, William O. Douglas, Bob Marshall, Rockwell Kent, and Ansel Adams. The book details the creation of the Arctic Wildlife Refuge and the Exxon Valdez oil spill among many other events. Paper boards, photographic endpapers, and color inserts. A near fine copy with toning to page edges and a few minor spots to the text block's top edge, otherwise about fine.
