The Space Between: Literary Epiphany in the Work of Annie Dillard (signed with letter)
Kent, Ohio: Kent State UP, 1992. First edition. Hardcover. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to author and radio broadcaster Art Bell, known for his nationally syndicated radio program Coast to Coast AM, which he hosted for Parhump, NV, outside Las Vegas: "For Art Bell, Thanks for your voice in the night -- with affection -- Sandy Humble Johnson, March 16th 1999." Uncommon signed. Laid in also is a two-page typed letter signed (TLS) to Bell from Johnson praising his show and introducing her book and personal biography. As the jacket says, "This first full-length study of the Pulitzer Prize-winning essayist considers Dillard as wilderness philosopher, religious mystic, professional critic, and archromantic." At the time Johnson taught at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. The book is fine in a fine jacket. The letter is good with a slice down the right side of the first page, probably from a box cutter during the original opening of the package at the radio station; otherwise fine. A nice critical addition to any Dillard collection. Fine / Fine. Item #1351
